Inauguration Inspired Fashion

·

On January 20, the inauguration of President Joe Biden ushered in a new era of historic change across the United States. Herstory was made when senator Kamala Harris was sworn in as Vice President, becoming the first woman to hold office with that title, and Dr. Jill Biden joined her husband in the White House. Several other notable women were also featured during the inauguration ceremony, sharing their talents on the national stage. Jennifer Lopez sang a moving medley of “This Land is Your Land” & “America the Beautiful," while Lady Gaga performed a rousing rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner”. And who could forget young poet Amanda Gorman, who stunned the world with her powerful poem “The Hill We Climb”? Of course, it’s not surprising that the inauguration was an opportunity for some major fashion moments as well!

When it comes to Inauguration Day 2021 fashion, the event’s most notable looks can be summed up with one phrase— “fashion memo: bright coats”. Michelle Obama, Dr. Jill Biden, and Kamala Harris were easily the best dressed at the inauguration, wearing bright, monochromatic outfits. It’s also worth mentioning that Kamala and Michelle— who are both women of color— opted to wear designs made by fashion designers of color for the historic occasion! The three ladies stunned in red, purple, and blue jewel tones, and these bags evocative of their individual styles are sure to help you make just as much of a statement the next time you step out!

Kamala wore a vivid purple dress and coat while she was sworn into office, as well as a pair of black leather gloves and Manolo Blahnik pumps. She also added a traditional touch with a beautiful pearl necklace, which Puerto Rican designer Wilfredo Rosado designed just for her to wear on the occasion! To accessorize Kamala’s inauguration outfit with the perfect bag, pick up the Mademoiselle Croc Print Satchel. Classy yet unique, the crocodile-embossed leather bag stands out from the crowd. It’s also extremely versatile, able to be worn with a colorful crossbody strap!

Dr. Jill Biden made a memorable impression when she made her first appearance as the First Lady, wearing an outfit designed by Markarian designer Alexandra O’Neill. She opted for a traditional yet stylish look when she stepped out in a powder-blue dress and coat, both of which were accentuated with Swarovski crystals. For the perfect complement to Dr. Jill’s inauguration look, look no further than the Audrey Satchel! Sturdy and stylish, the Audrey can be worn as either a satchel or shoulder bag. The elegant lace detailing on the front also adds a feminine flair!

Michelle Obama: Empire Cheetah Hobo Bag
Michelle Obama wowed on Inauguration Day in an ensemble curated by Sergio Hudson, a Black designer from South Carolina. The former First Lady was dressed to impress in a burgundy turtleneck, which she paired with a matching peacoat and well-fitted pants. To add a bold touch to her look, she accessorized with black leather gloves and a gold belt around her waist. Fans of Michelle’s inauguration style will love the Empire Cheetah Hobo Bag! Sleek and functional, the lightweight shoulder bag is made from crocodile-embossed bordeaux leather. And just like Michelle’s look, it features accents of gold, seen in the logo and strappy chain!
